Duckling Update

So far 3 are hatched, 2 Yellow, and 1 Brown and Yellow, one more is well on its way.

Christmas Hatch

Its been suggested that we have a christmas day hatch, not sure yt what to hatch so now on the look out for eggs.

Duckling pictures

Ducklings

The Indian Runner ducks due to hatch this Tuesday have decided to put in an early appearance. So far 2 out of 5 are out, and 2 more on their way.

Quail at 4 and half weeks

The Quail are now 4 and half weeks old, 5 weeks next Tuesday. They are huge now compared with when they hatched, as can be seen from the pictures with the cuddly lion in the picture.

They are now living outside in their run and house, a metal rabbit house.

Cutie Pie Babies

Cutie hatched 2 chicks, one Gold Laced Wynadotte and one of Swimmers eggs a White Silkie. Sadly the gold laced wynadotte chick managed to get out of the hutch and died in the cold wet weather last week.

Cutie Pies Egg Mountain

When we moved Cutie Pie into the rabbit hutch last week, we discovered she hasd some 19 eggs under her, 7 more than I expected. Seems she has been stealing them form Swimmer and Purdie, who I thought had stopped laying.

Sadly she lost one egg out of the nest, this was one of our eggs and it was fertile and had started to develop, which would suggest George was more active than we thought. 2 other eggs purdies I believe were clear so I have taken them away from her so she now just has the 16 eggs.

Duck Eggs

The duck eggs are doing well, when candled last week all 5 were developing, so fingers crossed for 5 little runner ducklings.

Japenease and Italian

I've been told that I have two types of quail here, Japenease and Italian, should hopefully be able to sex them soon.

Quail at 2 weeks

Withe Quail turning 3 weeks old tomorrow I realised I haven't posted their 14 day old photos yet.

Bantam Eggs

I've just found out Bantams eggs take 19 - 21 days, so they could hatch anytime now, fingers crossed.

The cat has no started taking an interest in them.

Cutie Pies Eggs

The eggs for my broody Silkie have arrived, they are now resting in the kitchen ready to pop under her.

10 Hatched

10 hatched now, farily sure the other two are either infertile or dead in shell, mind you one of them is the one I accidentilly cracked last week, so it could have been 11.
I think the cat has gone deaf as he is not even stirring at the chirping come from the quail.

Broody

We now have a Silkie that has gone broody as well so some Bantam eggs are arriving for her today, so soon there will be more chicks.

Hatching Photos

7 Now

7 out now, the early ones are fluffing up.

6 Hatched

6 so far and 5 others hatching.

Eggs Pipped

At around 5 pm Monday evening, the eggs started pipping, by 6 11 out of 12 had cracked.

This morning at 6 am several eggs have a slightly larger hole.

Last Day of Turning

Well today is the last turning day, I have just topped up the Water, so after today it just fingers crossed and wait.

Checked for Fertility

As I have been unable to candle the eggs due to size and shell clour I decided to try float testing them. According to my book if the sink they are infertile, if the bob around then they are fertil.

Well the first 2 sank like rocks, a littl disheartening, the next bobbed. Altogether 7 bobbed 5 sank. I have left them all in the incubator as I want to be sure and not risk throwing out fertile eggs.

Sadly as I was drying one of the eggs, I cracked it. So I have painted nail varnish on, and popped it back in, so fingers crossed.

Day 11

Tried to candle eggs again today, but can't see any thing through the shells, so I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Sunday, October 08, 2006

Day 10

12 eggs still in incubator, haven't been able to candle them due to size and shell colour so will just have to wait and see.

Thursday, October 05, 2006

Day 7

Not much to report, still turning 5 times a day, going to try candleing the eggs for the first time later.

Tuesday, October 03, 2006

Day 5

Spare Bulbs

As advised by others I have purchased 3 spare bulbs for the Incubator Just in case.
