Welcome
Welcome to our Hatching eggs and chicks page.
On this blog you will be able to follow our progress with our first incubator (and now our second incubator, as well as few broody birds).
And hopefully see our healthy chicks.

Cutie Pies Eggs
The eggs for my broody Silkie have arrived, they are now resting in the kitchen ready to pop under her.
10 Hatched
10 hatched now, farily sure the other two are either infertile or dead in shell, mind you one of them is the one I accidentilly cracked last week, so it could have been 11.
I think the cat has gone deaf as he is not even stirring at the chirping come from the quail.

Broody
We now have a Silkie that has gone broody as well so some Bantam eggs are arriving for her today, so soon there will be more chicks.
Eggs Pipped
At around 5 pm Monday evening, the eggs started pipping, by 6 11 out of 12 had cracked.
This morning at 6 am several eggs have a slightly larger hole.

Checked for Fertility
As I have been unable to candle the eggs due to size and shell clour I decided to try float testing them. According to my book if the sink they are infertile, if the bob around then they are fertil.
Well the first 2 sank like rocks, a littl disheartening, the next bobbed. Altogether 7 bobbed 5 sank. I have left them all in the incubator as I want to be sure and not risk throwing out fertile eggs.
Sadly as I was drying one of the eggs, I cracked it. So I have painted nail varnish on, and popped it back in, so fingers crossed.

Day 11
Tried to candle eggs again today, but can't see any thing through the shells, so I guess I'll have to wait and see.
